T Register News

Toshiro Mifune and his MG TD

We have added an article received from Hideo Okane, Kenji Matsuoka (Kobe MG Car Club) and Peter Cook (MGCC Overseas Director) about the famous Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune and his love of his TD.

Mifune was the actor who played a ronin (a wandering Samurai with no master); a man with no name who appears out of the blue in trouble spots, and by using his sword disposes of villains, and disappears as mysteriously as when he arrived, which many believe was the model for the Clint Eastwood Western films. He also starred in many western films such as Hell in the Pacific, Midway and Grand Prix.

You can read the whole article and look at the photos of Mifune with his TD at

MG Era at Brooklands Museum 8 April 2018

T Types are always welcome at Brooklands Museum and even more so at their MG Era Day, even though this is not an official T Register event.
There will be action on Test Hill, a Concours d’Elegance and a cavalcade on the Mercedes-Benz World circuit.
Parking for MGs only will be on the Museum site – access is through the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road (the B374). Visitor parking will be in The Heights off Wellington Way or in the usual car park at Mercedes-Benz World.
Here’s the webpage for the event.

T Register parking at MG Era

Alan Wakefield has arranged for dedicated parking space within the Museum site itself for up to 15 T Types. Only T Types who have been issued with, and display on entry, a T Register designated Windscreen Parking Pass will be eligible to park in our pre-allocated area. If you do not have such a windscreen pass, you will not be able to park in the T Register dedicated parking area but will be directed to general MG parking areas elsewhere on the Museum site.
If any MGCC T Register members wish to receive a Parking Pass to be able to park their T Type in our allocated space, please contact Alan Wakefield T. 07831618520 or 01932 873170, quoting your MGCC Membership number and your full postal address, and the pass will be posted to you.
Allocation of passes will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you want one as the passes are already going fast! We apologise for the short notice but we have only just received the parking passes and details from Brooklands.
Note that the Windscreen Parking pass is NOT a Museum Entry ticket!
To park on site you will also need either a normal Entry Ticket which can be pre-purchased from the Brooklands Museum web site (see above) or on the gate on the day, or a valid Brooklands Trust Membership card (entry is free for Members).

You can see how he solved the problem in the latest issue.

February 2018 website additions

We have started reporting on the 2018 Events with report on the T Register at the MG and Triumph Spares day at Stoneleigh where the Register did a brisk trade in regalia and sales of members’ spares.

And our second addition is a reminiscence of racing a T Type in the early 1960s written by Allan Scott. This forms an addition to an already existing article by Stewart Penfound on Harry Lester’s own TA.

A TC in the Monte Carlo Classique rally – update

John Lomas, the owner of Blue Diamond Riley Services and its sister company the MG Automobile company, and his navigator Dan Hunter should be on their way back home now after their Monte Carlo Rally adventure in a TC.
They set off OK from Bicester Heritage on Tuesday 30 January and appeared at the Banbury Control Point at lunchtime on Friday 1 February. Banbury Council made a bit of a splash of the event and John and his TC team had a servicing centre there.
They had snow in Scotland and a small electrical fire caused by a short in the nearside side light, which put all their lights out – and that was during a snow white-out! The light was repaired at the Banbury Passage Control and off they went again heading for the Channel Tunnel.
They had fog and rain in France near Calais and then snow again in Dijon and nearly got written off by a boy racer in Lyon! However by the time they reached Valence, the weather had improved and they had sunshine all the way to Monaco. And the TC seems to have not missed a beat except for the earlier lighting problem.
You can see the tracking blog of their daily travels, and there are two videos, one of them setting off from Bicester Heritage and another of the Passage Control at Banbury, and an album of more photographs on the T Register’s Facebook Page.
The company are pre-war Riley and MG specialists located at Bicester Heritage and the TC was prepared in their workshop.

T Register summer 2018 events

We normally have one main event in the summer in addition to MG Live, but this year the T Register will be attending three –

  1. Flywheel Festival at Bicester Heritage, now renamed the Classic and Sports Car Show in association with Flywheel (yes, you’ve guessed it, sponsorship is involved). Date is 23-24 June.
  2. Chateau Impney Hill Climb (where we had our T Party last year). Date is 7-8 July
  3. The T Register T Party at the MG Car Club Donington Park race meeting. Date is 15 July.

We are arranging ticket discounts for entry for these events and we will publish them in the T Register’s email Newsletter as they will be available only to MG Car Club members. So keep looking at these events on the 2018 Events page and keep an eye on the News items in the email Newsletter.
