Race Retro to raise the curtain on an exciting new Triple-M season

2018 will see the continued resurgence of pre-war MG racing in the UK. The Triple-Ms (Midgets, Magnas and Magnettes) built from 1929 to 1936 will be racing with both the MG Car Club and the Vintage Sports-Car Club.

The series will be represented at Race Retro from Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th February as part of the MG Car Club stand. On display will be Malcolm Hills’ KN single-seater – the winner of the Brooklands Memorial Trophy at Donington in 1997 and the current holder of the Triple-M Register’s Kimber Trophy.

The race season gets underway with the very successful Mary Harris Trophy, which will once again be running at the MGCC spring race meeting at Brands Hatch in April.

Following Brands, the series will return to Donington Park for two separate all-MG races, with the VSCC on 24th June and with the MGCC for its British Sportscar Weekend on on 15th July. It has been a number of years since the Series raced at Donington, which is an important historical venue for pre-war racing MGs.

A number of the historic MGs that competed at pre-war Donington racing will be in action during 2018. Two of the C Types regularly campaigned at Donington between 1933 and 1936, C0263 and C0287, will be on the grid once again this season.

Additionally, K3030 will once again be in action this season, having been campaigned extensively in 2017 by current owner John Gillett. This car was driven in the 1935 Donington Nuffield Trophy by Prince Bira before finding its way to Australia, and is currently on display at the Brooklands Museum. Many more examples of Triple-M machinery will be on show, from the single seaters to the four cylinder sports cars.

The last four years have seen the international Triple-M grid strengthen every year, with near-capacity entries for all meetings. The series is very fortunate to have the wonderful support from its hosts, the MGCC and the VSCC, not to mention its race sponsor and partner for the 2018 season, Baynton Jones Historic Motorsport.
