One month to go until Silverstone season opener!

There’s now just one month until an exciting new season of MG Car Club motorsport gets underway, with an action-packed season opener taking place on the National Circuit at Silverstone on Saturday 7th April.

Silverstone is the first of six MGCC race meetings in 2018, and it features a packed schedule of motorsport action.  On the bill are six of the Club’s championships – namely the BCV8 Championship, Cockshoot Cup, Metro Cup, Midget and Sprite Challenge, MG Trophy and the Peter Best Insurance MG Cup. In addition, there will be packed grids from both the thrilling Equipe GTS and Equipe Pre-’63 series.

As well as last season’s contenders, the various championships will play host to a number of new challengers this year. Youngsters Abigail Whitt and Ed Weston will be joining the Midget and Sprite ranks, while 16-year-old Joe Dalgarno will be racing a ZR in the MG Trophy Championship. Several drivers will be returning to MGCC racing after long absences, and there’s set to be an international flavour too, with news that Rob O’Boyle will be joining the MG Trophy all the way from Australia.

The Club is keen to encourage the next generation of drivers to follow in the footsteps of previously successful MGCC drivers like Jack Goff, who progressed into the British Touring Car Championship. After launching an initiative for 16-21-year-olds last year, the Club is pleased to reveal that the age bracket has been extended for 2018, meaning young racers up to the age of 25 can benefit from racing with the Club for just £6000 – a fee that includes the price of a car, race preparation, and half-price entry fees.

With a commitment to low-cost entry fees across the board, the MG Car Club gives potential drivers the opportunity of racing MGs at iconic UK venues including the Silverstone Historic GP circuit and Oulton Park. In addition, all competitors can achieve race entry discounts by competing in all championship rounds.

MGCC Competitions Secretary John Hutchison said: “We are delighted to see to more young drivers venturing into the world of racing MGs this season across our championships and series. Along with the ever popular Equipe GTS and the new Equipe Pre-’63 series, it’s all gearing up to be a fine day of racing at the home of British motorsport.”
