MGs and Morgans to star at new British Sportscar Weekend

Donington Park will be the venue as the MG Car Club and Morgan Sports Car Club headline the inaugural British Sportscar Weekend on July 14-15. A race meeting with a difference, the event will combine eight MGCC championships and series, four separate Morgan races and the Equipe Three-Hour Relay with plentiful infield activities and a host of extra features.

As the name suggests, British sportscars will form the meeting’s backbone, and the Morgan Sports Car Club certainly fit the bill in that respect. Its race encounters will be joined on the guest list by the ever-popular Equipe Pre’63 and GTS races, with visitors also able to enjoy the thrilling Equipe Three-Hour Relay for teams of up to six cars on the Saturday. An impressive 29 teams have already entered!

Of course, the Club’s own championships and series remain a major highlight. Taking to the Leicestershire circuit over the weekend will be the BCV8 Championship, Midget and Sprite Challenge, MG Trophy, MG Metro Cup, Cockshoot Cup and Peter Best Insurance Services MG Cup, as well as the historic Iconic 50s series and the Triple-M Racing Challenge. That’s an automotive line-up spanning over 80 years!

The fun, friendly nature of MGCC Motorsport will be a major theme throughout the meeting, with visitors able to get up close and personal with the drivers and cars. There will be grid walks on both days, while the weekend’s MG Trophy Championship sponsor, MG Nottingham, will have its own display in Paddock Two.

The weekend will effectively offer two events in one, with the infield area set to be bustling as the Club also stages its annual Saloon Day on Sunday. This is an all-inclusive event for all MG tin-tops, covering a whole host of models right up the latest MG SUVs. The Club will be celebrating a hat-trick of MG anniversaries too; 30 years of the Maestro Turbo, 15 years of the ZT 260 and five years of the MG3.

In addition, many of the Club’s Registers and Centres will be out in force. Expect displays from the T-Register, V8 register, MGB Register, MGC Register, MGs on Track, Midlands Centre and more.

Back on the circuit, once again bustling grids are expected for the Club’s championships. Youngsters and returning heroes will do battle as part of a 30-plus entry in the MG Nottingham MG Trophy, while Rob Spencer and Russell McCarthy look set to resume their rivalry in the resurgent TN Racing BCV8 Championship, which already has over 20 cars entered. The Cockshoot Cup is proving very popular too, while the Triple-M series looks set to be another entertaining spectacle!

The event takes place at a great venue too - MSV has made a host of improvements to the circuit and amenities during its tenure, making it the perfect setting for a multi-faceted meeting like this.

Book via HERE for a 10 per cent reduction on tickets. Camping is available at the circuit to allow you to make a weekend of it, with discounted entry also available for the Donington Collections – the largest display of Grand Prix cars in the world. With so much on the bill and a friendly atmosphere to boot, this is an event not to miss.
