Ladies that race

Last weekend saw the Walter Hayes Race Meeting take place at Silverstone. It was one of the final events of the year, with most race championships having already concluded.

The British Women’s Racing Drivers Club (BWRDC) put on an all-comer handicap race for ladies only, which took place on the Sunday afternoon.

Out of the 20 entries, three were MG Car Club championship regulars. Helen Waddington (MG ZR160, Cockshoot Cup), Julia Penfold (MG ZR170, Cockshoot Cup), and Hannah Brian (Rover Metro GTi, PBIC MG Cup) all took part with relative success, racing against a very eclectic mix of cars.

Other drivers in the race who also regularly race at MGCC meetings during the year included Sharlie Goddard (Morgan +8), Sarah Hutchison (Lancia Beta Coupe) and Nathalie McGloin (Porsche Cayman S), who managed to gain her first ever podium after finishing third overall.

MG Car Club Race Competitions Secretary John Hutchison said: “We are proud at the MGCC to have lady racing drivers registered in all our championships and series, some of whom have supported us for many seasons, and hope for this to continue in the future.”
