Tyne-Tees Cobweb Run: April 21st

Entries are now open for the MG Car Club Ltd. Tyne Tees Centre Cobweb Run on Sunday 21st April 2024. We cannot accept any more than 50 cars on the Cobweb Run so please do not delay your entry to avoid disappointment.
Start and Finish will be at Plantsplus Garden Centre, Berwick Hill Rd, Seaton Burn, Newcastle upon Tyne NE13 6BU which offers a large open restaurant and parking. To celebrate Drive it Day and blow away the winter cobwebs we will be heading west of Plants Plus into the quiet roads of Northumberland, skirting the foothills of the Cheviots offering stunning views.
For those more adventurous types, the Cobweb Challenge route is 106 miles and offers a more testing drive while still allowing time for a break. Because we travel the more remote roads of Northumberland you may wish to consider packing a picnic lunch.
The Cobweb Tour route of 77 miles while still an interesting route will allow more time to admire the scenery or maybe spend a little longer over lunch.
Route instructions will be issued at the start as a detailed Tulip style Route Book. Both Routes will be clearly marked and to avoid your hard-pressed navigator having to do a lot of sums where the two routes merge, we’ll zero trip meters.
First car away will be about 1000hrs and crews should aim to return to Plantsplus from about 1415hrs. Please note that Plantsplus closes at 1600hrs on a Sunday.
The Cobweb Run Trophies will be presented at the Finish at Plantsplus Garden Centre. Judging will take place before you leave the start.

The entry fees have been kept the same as 2023, where at least one person in the car is an MG Car Club member will be £25.00 based on 2 people per car.
The entry fee for non-members is £30.00 based on 2 people per car.
The entry fees include tea/coffee at the start and on returning you to the finish you will get tea or coffee and a pastry or cake.

Refreshments for extra passengers are charged at £10.00 per person so please include with your payment.
Bacon or Sausage Breakfast rolls can be purchased if anyone didn’t have time for breakfast, at an additional cost of £5.25. each.
Because of Sunday trading laws these must be ordered in advance, so if you would like one please tick the box and add the required amount to your entry fee. A vegetarian/vegan option for Breakfast is available – please contact David Alexander.

MG 100 Cavalcade – John O’Groats to Lands End
TYNE-TEES CENTRE LEG
CAVALCADE ENTRIES:
As you will have read about in Safety Fast! this exciting, nationwide event is taking place between Tuesday 30th April and Saturday 25th May and the Tyne-Tees Centre Leg will be running throughout the 8th of May 2024.
As we continue the celebration of 100 years of MG in 2024, for the enjoyment of members throughout the country, our goal is to link all regions of the UK and all parts of our Club in celebration as a Centenary led expression of the ‘Marque of Friendship’. This is being achieved by way of a series of ‘road runs’ all the way from John O’Groats to Lands’ End.
The whole Club is uniting in this endeavour so that a very appropriate ‘MG 100 baton’ can pass from one end of the country to the other, involving as many members as possible…
This is your chance to take part!
The Tyne-Tees Centre arrangements are as follows:
Carlisle to Croxdale Section: Wednesday 8th May starting at 10:00am
Meet at MG Carlisle: Bristol St. Motors, Parkhouse Road, Carlisle CA3 0GW from 9:00am Complimentary refreshments will be available at the dealership and we will have reserved space both in the MG showroom and on the forecourt areas for our cars. Given the start location, some of our Tyne-Tees members may wish to have an overnight stay locally, which could be good.
Join the cavalcade on an 86 mile scenic route into Northumberland, following Hadrian’s Wall before turning south across Allendale Moor into Weardale where the route takes us into County Durham, finally heading north up the Great North Road to arrive at MG Croxdale for a reception and handover point of the MG100 Baton (Cecil) where complimentary refreshments will be available.
Croxdale to Richmond Section: Wednesday 8th May starting at 3:00pm
We will have reserved space both in the MG showroom and on the forecourt areas for our MG cars, which for those just starting the cavalcade from here, can be on display from the morning onwards. These need to be pre-arranged, so please contact Noel Lindford well in advance.
The cavalcade will then head off on a 43 mile tour across County Durham via Bishop Auckland, Raby Castle. Barnard Castle and into North Yorkshire to a finish at about 5:00pm in Richmond and an overnight stop for those carrying on with the Yorkshire Centre Tour. That starts the following morning from the Market Place in Richmond for the formal handover of the MG100 Baton (Cecil).
You may join us for one or both sections of the Tyne-Tees Leg of the Cavalcade, or at one of the handover points mentioned above. (We aim to have a display of members’ MGs both in the showroom and the forecourt of both MG dealers, so if you wish to be part of that please let us know well in advance of the dates.
There is no charge for participating in this historic event across Tyne-Tees Centre, but we hope you will be generous by supporting one or both of the very worthy charities, they being Lupus UK and the Alzheimers Society. We will have collection buckets at both MG dealerships involved in the Tyne-Tees Leg of the Cavalcade.
Tulip style route books and a Cavalcade Rally Plaque will be supplied for those taking parting in one or more sections / legs of the Cavalcade.

Once you have declared your intentions, I can point you to the necessary Tyne-Tees Centre Google forms to make an entry for one or both sections of this leg of the cavalcade, and a suggested charitable donation, as there is no entry fee.
As this event is covered by a Motorsport UK Certificate of Exemption for a Touring Assembly, you will need to sign on at one of the meeting points to comply with insurance requirements.

The event objectives are as follows:

To celebrate 100 years of MG in as inclusive and visible way possible, with support from all the various CRBs, but in particular MGCC Centres, by running a series of consecutive ‘scenic runs’ the full length of the country.

Bring to life Club celebrations in a very active way in the UK – MGs on the road!

Involve as many members as possible – from all age groups and eras of MG – from Vintage/MMM to ‘Young Members’… The friendship of generations travelling together

Devise an ‘overall’ route, which takes in some of the key venues to the overall MG story and iconic motoring / motorsport locations throughout mainland UK…

Attract national and local PR – via TV, radio and on-line & print media through our nationwide event..

Involve MG Motor UK Dealership Network in the event and fundraise for charity for both Lupus UK and the Alzheimer’s Society…
Where do the origins of this exciting event come from?
The concept originates with Geoff Mansfield who undertook the full Jogle in his 1931 MG M type Sportsman Coupe in his 80th year with a 90-year-old motorcar! A 1,000 mile adventure undertaken during 2021 for both the experience and to fund-raise for charity…
How will it work?
Although there may be a number of ‘end-to-enders’ joining in with all stages of the event, the Cavalcade is not a procession of MGs from one end of the county to the other, but rather a series of individual Centre road-runs.
These are, where necessary, joined together by ‘linking sections’ with ‘handover points’ for the ‘MG 100 baton’ which are envisaged to generally be at MG Motor UK dealerships, passing the ‘MG 100 baton’ one Centre to the next throughout the country.
The event has also been timed to coincide with the Southeast Centre’s exciting Brooklands event over the weekend of the 18th & 19th May, with the dates of the Cavalcade working ‘forwards’ and ‘backwards’ from this to ensure the Cavalcade is passing through the area at the appropriate time. Where’s Cecil?
The handover points will facilitate the passing of a gloss-sprayed card Cecil Kimber (the ‘MG 100 baton’!) between Centre officials, thereby allowing for the individual Centre’s scenic run to start and conclude where the Centre so desires, taking in such picturesque routes and places of interest as they wish to include.
The whole ‘Where’s Cecil’ concept we believe will bring a fun, engaging and media-friendly angle to the event emphasising the fun and heritage facets of our Club character.
‘Cecil’, will have two ninety-degree folds, one at knee height and the other at the pelvis allowing the great man to sit prominently in the passenger seat of a series of MGs throughout the trip. He will also have capability to be stood up by way of a movable ‘spine’ which will allow display at the Cavalcade start, finish, baton Handover Points and at the Southeast Centre’s Brooklands MG 100 event.
The story of Cecil’s adventures will no doubt make for an entertaining theme through the event and be recorded for posterity in the Cavalcade log-book. Once the event closes, Cecil and the Cavalcade log will retire to live comfortably at Kimber House, Abingdon as a permanent reminder of the event’s contribution to our 100-year celebrations.
We are keen that all parts of the country and all parts of the Club are involved in this ‘rolling’ event, involving as many members as possible, as a very inclusive demonstration of the ‘Marque of Friendship’.
