Bumper month of car show spectacles for Tyne Tees Centre
August provided a busy calendar for MG Car Club Tyne Tees Centre members this year, with major presences at no fewer than three major car shows in the region.
Providing both an opportunity to showcase some fine examples of MG cars in each other’s company and to engage with the wider car enthusiast community our stands proved to be popular draws with a wide array of MG’s assembled.

The month started with a major presence at the new-for-2026 Wings and Wheels show from Tyneside auctioneers WB & Sons in association and Athey’s Moor Flying School.
An excellent turnout from centre members saw a display of some 15 cars mounted including a guest appearance from an MG SV8 who we were delighted to welcome with our collection for day representing much of the marques history pre SAIC acquisition.
The event itself was a spectacular debut, with organisers anticipating a display of around 300 cars in total and stopping the count of admissions as the past 700.
Whilst that provided some challenges for their logistics it has already established itself as a must-attend show and one we will look to attend again in 2027.
From the new kid on the block, or next major display came three weeks later with the Cumbria Classic & Motorsport Show at Dalemain House near Penrith and which has been part of our calendar for a number of years.
2026 saw Tyne Tees Centre take a club stand for 15 cars, some travelling over the day before and others on the morning of the 23rd.
Adopting an alternative stand layout to a line of cars we left plenty of space for visitors to wander in between and ask questions.
The weather also played it’s part with sunshine and suffice to say we all had an excellent day out finished off with enjoyable journeys back over Hartside Pass and down the Wear Valley.
It is another that will definitely have a presence on our calendar in 2027 and following a successful trial may become a full weekend adventure for those interested. Keep your eyes on the newsletter next year.
Completing the triumvirate, August Bank Holiday Monday saw the club descend on Stamfordham in Northumberland for the village’s annual Classic & Sports Car show which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2026.
Far from its humble origins, the show once again took over the village playing fields with another fine assembly of Tyne Tees members cars making a fine display for our final major show of the year.
All three of these major displays were curated and organised by David Alexander to whom everyone is thankful for his dedication and efforts.
Alongside these three events and the Hamsterly Hoppings on August 30th, individual members also took to events including the Rover 75 / MG ZT Owners Club Anglo Scottish meet, Red Row Vintage & Tractor Club show, Ushaw Classic Car & Bike Show and another new show at Brockbushes Farm Shop near Corbridge.
We also had representation at two major national events with members also present at MG Fest at Brands Hatch and ZEDFest in Stoneleigh.
