MG Motor Register at the ‘Ride before you Buy’ MGCC/Abingdon Works Centre 2026 event
This was a completely new event organised by the Abingdon Works Centre on behalf of the main club and the event was designed both to draw all the club Register’s together to display their cars, and to give the public the chance to ride in an MG of their choice to see what they’re like before they buy one themselves – or just to enjoy the ride!
This free event was held at the Abingdon Vale cricket club grounds just across the Thames bridge from the Abingdon town centre. It was held at the same time as the Abingdon Michaelmas Fair and opinion was divided as to whether this helped or hindered the number of people coming to the event. However we were blessed with glorious wall-to-wall sunshine throughout the day and attendance was respectable, and enough to give great consideration as to holding it again next year. With improvements of course, based on the experience of this year. As a touchstone figure, 36 people went for rides in the MG of their choice.
The photos below show a selection of the MGs that were displayed, and a look at the YouTube video below gives a good flavour of the event.
