Register meeting at the British Motor Museum

We had 46 MGMR owners who attended our first solo register meeting at the British Motor Museum on Sunday 5th July, so very many thanks to you all.

There was a report of the event by Tony Cotter in September’s Safety Fast and it is repeated below.
Following the creation of the MG Motor Register last year, this was to be the first ‘solo’ event for the Register, formed to cater for owners of all SAIC-built MGs. Choosing a suitable location for this inaugural event fell to the Register’s Committee, namely Peter Chalmers and John Watson, and they chose wisely.
The ever-popular British Motor Museum (formerly known as the Heritage Motor Centre and widely known simply as Gaydon) provided the perfect backdrop, and played host to over 50 modern MGs as well as the National Metro & Mini Show and the Colt/Mitsubishi Show – three for the price of one!
Of those 50+ MGs, there was very nearly at least one of every model built since the SAIC purchase of MG. The oldest was a gorgeous Bronze MG6, assembled at Longbridge, Birmingham, and the first new model launched by the Chinese-owned company. The newest was the stunning IM5, IM being the new luxury brand of MG (think Lexus/Toyota).
MG Motor dealership Trinity MG Coventry were on hand to offer advice and answer questions regarding new or pre-loved MG sales. And of course, they brought along a Cyberster for all to admire. But their Cyberster was only one of eight Cybersters on show at this event. A stunning collection of seven MG Car Club members’ Cybersters were all neatly lined up at the front of the display area – the most seen in the UK since the official launch, as confirmed by none other than David Allison, Director of Product & Planning at MG Motor UK Ltd, who was delighted with the turnout and the wide variety of models on display.
One Cyberster owner came over from Dublin especially for this event, with other long-distance enthusiasts travelling from all over the UK.
As well as the MG Motor Register gazebo offering Register-branded clothing, badges and other merchandise, the MG Car Club were also in attendance with a selection of Car Club goodies to buy. Special thanks to Ineke and Liz for giving up their Sunday day off to support our event.
Although the day started a little overcast, the sun came out, and so did the picnic chairs and tables, making the day a true winner. Wrapping up in time to beat the exodus of British F1 traffic nearby, everyone seemed to have had a great day – meeting old friends, making new ones and above all, keeping the Marque of Friendship alive and kicking.
