Peppercorn A1 Pacific Steam Engine Talks

24th September 2013

THE MG CAR CLUB’s MGB Register and Tyne Tees Centre are both holding talks on the story of 60163 ‘Tornado’.

In 1990 a group of people came together to share an extraordinary ambition – to construct a brand new Peppercorn A1 Pacific. After nineteen years of incredible effort that locomotive, Number 60163 “Tornado”, moved under its own power for the first time in 2008. Tornado is now fulfilling the dream, hauling specials on the mainline and giving joy to thousands of passengers and line-side spectators who want to witness the legend in action.

Who’d have thought that a dream conceived over a few pints in a pub, back in 1990, financed by ordinary enthusiasts motivate by the dedication of a few would lead to such an achievement. Hear all about the project, life after the build, how Tornado is now commissioned and running again on the national rail network!

Car Club members and the general public are both invited to attend the talks.

The MGB Register’s talk will be taking place at 7:30 pm 0n Thursday 3rd October at Abingdon School. Doors open an hour before the start of the talk. More details and an entry form can be found here.

The Tyne Tees Centre talk will be taking place at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 6th November at Appleby Lecture Theatre in Durham University. Doors open an hour before the start of the talk. More details and an entry form can be found here.
