MG achieves best-ever monthly sales result and market share despite physical closure of dealerships

8th April 2021

MG Motor has smashed all records in March 2021 despite the brand’s dealerships being physically closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The rapidly growing car brand achieved 3,956 registrations in March, achieving its best-ever sales month in the UK market and recording a record market share of 1.45%, a 28.1% growth over March 2020.

Overall, sales were up 44.6% compared with March 2021, against a whole of market sales increase of 11.5%.

Almost a third of new MGs registered in March 2021 (30.5%) were pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs), against an overall market penetration of 7.7% for BEVs across all brands. In total, MG achieved a BEV market share of 5.5%, ahead of a number of high-volume established brands.

Guy Pigounakis, MG’s Commercial Director, said: “We’re incredibly proud of how our rapidly growing dealer network has risen to the challenge of operating in an environment where dealerships have been forced to remain physically closed and our March sales result is an absolute credit to them.

“It also shows how rapidly engaged the car buying public are becoming in the MG brand as we continue to innovate and offer great value, high tech and pioneering new cars and demonstrate our leadership in affordable EVs. It’s an astonishing result and one that underlines our commitment to continued growth.

“As our dealerships reopen and welcome back customers from next week, we’re positioned to really capitalise on the increasing demand for EVs and for great value, high quality cars.”

MG currently offers three plug-in models in the UK – the established MG ZS EV, the game-changing All New MG5 EV and MG HS Plug-in, all backed up by MG’s incredible 7 year warranty and fast-developing dealer network.
