Race Reports 2026
Oulton Park April 12th
Qualifying
The Cockshoot Cup Championship for 2026 started at Oulton Park on April 12th. Qualifying took place on a wet track after overnight rain. Quickest driver was David Coulthard back in his ZR190 after racing the MGF Cup Car in recent years. Alongside David on the front row was Mark Bellamy in his Class A MG ZR170. Third and fourth quickest were Chris Greenbank driving his MGF and Karl Green in the powerful MG ZS. Next up were Jimmie Johnson’s Class A ZR 170 and Laura Farrow’s MGF. Defending champion Keith Egar was back on row four in his MG Midget with Helen Waddington’s MG ZR170 alongside. The grid was completed by Eliza Seville in another ZR170, Phil Rigby’s MGF now in Class C, Leon Wignall giving the MG3 a debut and new driver Stanley Dixon in a Class F MGF.
Race One
The track had dried by the time that the competitors lined up for race one. When the red lights went out Keith Egar made an amazing start to lead the race out of Old Hall Corner. Chris Greenbank gave chase, taking the lead to win the race setting fastest lap in doing so. Keith didn’t give up claiming second in class C and the race. David Coulthard slotted the ZR190 into third from Karl Green in a dice which would last the whole race with Karl slipping ahead to take third in class C from David in fourth. Laura Farrow finished fifth in her first race using slick tyres. Class A leader throughout the race was Mark Bellamy, but Jimmie Johnson was very close to him at the chequered flag. Helen Waddington was also closing taking third in Class and Eliza Seville was fourth after a brief pit visit. Stanley Dixon was improving his lap time on every tour, but was forced into retirement with a clutch problem. Leo Wignall was pleased with the handling of the MG 3 but a missed gear change resulted in retirement. The driver of the race was awarded to Chris Greenbank for his fastest lap which was very close to the lap record.
Race Two
A mid-afternoon sharp shower worried the drivers, but at race time the track was dry again. Leon and Stanley were non-starters. Once again Keith got the drop on Chris at the start and held on for a couple of laps. Chris was a man on a mission and flew past to take a second win with Keith taking second. Once again David Coulthard was ahead of Karl Green and held on to third for several laps. The extra power of the ZS enabled Karl to slip past and take third from David. Laura Farrow was again fifth. Sixth in class C was Phil Rigby who had a good day bedding in his new race engine in “The Brat”. This time Jimmie Johnson took the lead in class A from Mark Bellamy. The gap between the two varied lap by lap but Jimmie held on by a very small margin to reverse the race one result. Eliza Seville had a trouble free race this time to finish third in class from Helen Waddington in fourth. David Coulthard was awarded driver of the race for his pole position and a solid return to front wheel drive racing.
The Vicky Peters Trophies are awarded at Oulton Park for the best aggregate performances. Chris Greenbank won the Class C trophy from his two wins. In Class A Mark Bellamy and Jimmy Johnson had a win and second place each so the time gaps came into play with Mark winning the Vicky Peters Trophy on aggregate time.
Silverstone June 13th
Qualifying
The Cockshoot Cup drivers arrived at Silverstone on a dry and blustery day for rounds three and four of the 2026 Championship. The fifteen minute session saw Karl Green in the powerful V6 powered MG ZS swapping fastest times with Keith Egar’s MG Midget with Karl taking pole by less than half a second. Row two was an MGF lockout with both Laura Farrow and Phil Rigby going very well as they continue to learn about slick tyres both having moved up from the standard class. Next up was fastest Class A runner Jimmie Johnson in the MG ZR 170 and Class C MG ZR190 runner Mike Ashcroft making his return to the Championship. Another returnee Gareth Jones in his Class F MGF and second class A runner Mark Bellamy made up the fourth row. Next up was a third driver making a comeback, this being Andrew Walsh in another Class A ZR. Final runners were Martin Richardson aboard his Class B MGB, Leon Wignall still developing the MG3 and Stanley Dixon’s Class F MGF.
Race One
Immediately after the lunch break the cars lined up for the first race. Keith Egar made a superb start from the front row to lead from Karl Green, but halfway through the lap, Gareth Jones spun his MGF and Mark Bellamy charging hard could not avoid heavy contact with the stranded car. Fortunately both drivers were OK, but the safety car was deployed to clear the track. This closed the cars up and when they were released Keith pulled away to secure the win. Karl was a safe second but fuel pressure problems starved the V6 and he rolled into retirement. Behind these two Laura Farrow, Phil Rigby and Mike Ashcroft enjoyed some great racing and overtakes with Laura taking second in the race and Class C from Mike Ashcroft and Phil Rigby. Jimmy Johnson grabbed the Class A lead but Andrew Walsh was hot on his tail the gap being just three quarters of a second at the flag. Leon Wignall brought the MG3 home for a first finish in third place in the class. Final finishers were Martin Richardson and Stanley Dixon. Driver of the race was awarded to Andrew Walsh for his spirited pursuit of Jimmy Johnson.
Race Two
The second race was the final race of the day which started well ahead of schedule thanks to the efficient work of the BRSCC. Mark and Gareth were non-starters, but the hard working CMC Team had cured Karl’s fuel problem but he would have to start from the back of the grid. When the lights went out it was Keith Egar who once again raced away in front, and looked as if he would have an easy win. Incredibly Karl sliced through the pack, setting fastest laps, and was soon right behind Keith. Lap after lap the two drivers traded fastest laps, but with a couple to go, Karl had to back off to ensure he had enough fuel to bring the car home in second place with a very happy Keith taking a second win after a very hard race. Laura brought the MGF home third, and this time Phil Rigby got the better of Mike Ashcroft these two finishing fourth and fifth. Jimmie Johnson took a second victory in Class A with Andrew Walsh a bit further back after. Leon was again third as the learning continued in the MG3. Martin Richardson finished safely in Class B as did Stanley Dixon in Class F. Driver of the race this time was Karl Green for his chase from the back of the grid.
The Tim Forward Trophies for best aggregate performances were won by Keith Egar (Class C), Martin Richardson (Class B), Jimmie Johnson (Class A) and Stanley Dixon (Class F).
