MG Marvel R launches in Europe

27th March 2021

There is a new MG in Europe and it’s marvellous – well, a Marvel actually.

The MG Marvel R is the latest electric SUV to join the MG line up for European markets and sits in the range of second-generation battery electric vehicles (which also includes the new MG5 estate), and promises improved performance, longer driving ranges (nothing to do with Golf), and shorter charging times. The exterior, although identical in size and footprint to the previous model, poses by rocking MG’s new Evolution Design language which sees a more consistent design language starting to emerge across all MG Motor models worldwide.

The MG Marvel R will be available in an All-Wheel -Drive triple-electric motor setup, with one motor on the front axle and two at the rear, or the option of rear-wheel drive  with dual-electric motors. Power figures stand at 288 hp/665 Nm, with a 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, and a top speed of 125 mph, likely for the All – Wheel – Drive models.

Over 248 miles (WLTP) of driving range is apparently achievable, though MG have not released information on the battery size as yet.

MG’s onboard 11 kW AC charger is standard in the model. DC fast charging will top-up 80 percent of the battery in just half an hour. The Marvel R will also offer vehicle-to-load charging which s a nifty feature allowing the charging of electric accessories like e-bikes. Tech wise the highlight feature remains the 19.4-inch touchscreen, and 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panels.

A quick measure up puts the MG Marvel R at 4,674 mm long, 1,919 mm wide, and 1,618 mm tall, on a 2,800 mm long wheelbase.

The front and rear of the Marvel R show the most significant changes, with sleeker, more futuristic styling at either end. Inside, the The new MG Marvel R is slated for a European launch in May 2021. An Indian launch for the Marvel R could be on the cards in the coming future, considering the overwhelming response the MG Marvel X received when it was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.
