A devastating fire erupted on the evening of Thursday, 15th May 2025, at Bicester Motion, a renowned automotive and aviation heritage site located on the grounds of the former RAF Bicester in Oxfordshire. The blaze, which ignited around 6.30pm, claimed the lives of two firefighters and one member of the public, and left two additional firefighters hospitalized with serious injuries.
The fire originated in one of the site’s historic hangars used for vehicle storage. Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions and observing thick plumes of black smoke visible from miles away. Ash fell across parts of Bicester, prompting authorities to advise residents to stay indoors and keep windows closed due to potential asbestos exposure from the building’s roof
Ten fire crews responded swiftly to the incident, working through the night to contain the inferno. By Friday morning, the fire was under control, with four crews remaining on-site to manage hotspots and ensure safety.
Our hearts go out to the friends and families of those who tragically lost their lives. On behalf of everyone at the MG Car Club we offer our deepest and most sincere condolences during this profoundly difficult time.
We are immensely grateful for the courage and dedication of our emergency services, their selflessness is a daily gift to us all, and we owe them more than words can ever express.
While we understand that vehicles were also lost in the fire, their loss pales in comparison to the irreplaceable lives that have been taken.
