Cecil Kimber Blue Plaque Fund

22nd July 2014

Cecil Kimber At Desk

THE MG CAR CLUB and Abingdon Works Centre are raising funds for a commemorative blue plaque on the former Abingdon home of Cecil Kimber, the man behind the MG Car Company.

Kimber moved the manufacturer to Abingdon and was key to their success in the early years of MG. The plaque will raise awareness of MG’s history in the town and will be another MG addition to those visiting Abingdon.

For 50 years, between 1929 and 1979, Abingdon was home to MG, and the factory was one of the town’s largest employers. From this small town near Oxford, some of the fastest cars in the world were built and raced.

£600 is needed for the manufacturing and installation of a commemorative plaque on the former home of Cecil Kimber.

We are hoping to have the plaque in place in early October this year.

If you wish to donate to the funding of the plaque, a shop item has been created, allowing people to select an amount to donate. This can be done here.

Your support would be very much appreciated.
