We returned to Donington over the weekend of July 20-21 for the next rounds of the 2019 racing championships. We teamed up with the MGF Register and had our own area in the paddock for our gazebos and display cars
Located by the entrance, we aimed to do something eye-catching. Although mainly dry apart from the odd shower on the Saturday, it was too windy to have the gazebos up or any material out. We did, however, have some cars on display and our flags were flown showing people we were there. Sunday was the busier of the two and the wind had calmed overnight. We were able to put the gazebo up and have regalia out on sale.
Geoff coordinated the parade lap participants from the hospitality suite on both days, Sunday being the more popular day for parade laps with those taking part enjoying the experience.
For a full report on the weekend’s racing visit the motorsport area on the Club website. This year’s racing championship concludes at Snetterton on Saturday 5th October.
The following weekend, MG Saloon Day took place at the Shuttleworth Museum on Sunday 28thJuly. In a classic example of a certain law, it just goes to show that you can’t trust the British summer! We were able to set up the afternoon before in relative dryness, however, drizzle was the order for most of the day itself. Despite this we had around 70 cars attend, including some of the older MG saloon-types which were in total contrast to the latest MG ZS. The forecasted weather may have deterred some from attending, but we made the point of saying ” the show will go on ” regardless! Those hardy enthusiasts who did venture out enjoyed the day and the museum collection.
It was great to see some of our regular supporters, too. Congratulations to the winners and runners-up of the ‘Show and Shine’ competition. Thank you for bringing your pride and joys out on such a damp day. In the event programme we announced exciting plans for MG Saloon Day 2020. More information will be released in due course.
On Sunday 18th August Monogram Sunday took place at Burghley House in Lincolnshire. There will be a full report on this event in the next Register update.
Although we take a bit of a breather during September, mention must be made of our Open Day and AGM at Kimber House on Sunday 6th October.
