Classic Motor Show - 13th to 15th November 2009

The ZR/ZS/ZT Register's 2009 Season ended with a 'bang' at the NEC over the weekend of 13/14/15th November. This huge national motoring show was by far the biggest and busiest event we'd attended last year. I write these notes literally days after the show, and what a weekend it turned out to be. We shared a stand with the MGF Register once again which was conveniently located opposite the main MG Car Club stand. The show occupied most of the NEC, with one hall set aside for the Classic Motorcycle Show. The two Zeds we had on display were Darren Broxup's supercharged MG ZT 400 V8, and Chris Bray's championship winning MG ZR 190, fresh off the track from the end of the racing season. Both cars were very popular with the crowds. We were all kept busy talking to people about the Register, our events past and this coming year, and those wishing to register their cars with us. Some joined the MGCC that day and were directed over to us immediately to register their Zed. As the crowds slowly receded during the afternoon we were able to take in the rest of the show ourselves and to take photographs. A blasting of car horns signalled the close of the show at 5pm and a near military operation ensued as we dismantled our stand and packed it away. We then had a chance to stop and reflect on a very successful weekend.

Castle Combe - 24th October 2009

The 24th October brought us to a rather wet Castle Combe. Having been such a huge success last year, the Register returned to support this popular charity event. The weather may have deterred some from attending the small West Country circuit, but attendance was generally very good with a variety of MG types being well represented. The action on the track was just as good as last year despite the wet surface, with an eye-popping mix of super-cars on display and giving rides to all-comers. The feedback we have received from this event has been very positive, even the weather improved during the afternoon. Thanks to everyone's efforts a considerable contribution was made to the Stroke Association, so well done.

Events 2010

We have taken the opportunity to review our 2009 events, so we could plan ahead for next year. We felt that the following events should supported by the Register in 2010:

MG Car Club Racing Championships

MG Era Day at Brooklands (pending the racing calendar)

Pride of Longbridge Rally
MG Saloon Day
MGs on Track

Dates and further additions will of course be announced in due course - check the Events Calender section.

If you have any thoughts for our 2010 events calendar; or events you have attended in the past which you feel the Register would like to consider attending, then please let us know.

Regalia

At our recent Committee Meeting at Kimber House, it was confirmed that the new range of regalia continues to be very popular this year. The new-style base-ball cap has been a welcome addition to the clothing range. We are currently in the process of replacing our T-shirts with a new plain black style with the Register logo on the front. There could also be a couple of surprise additions to our range next year. The possibility of online sales is also being looked into, so our range can be purchased directly, not just at events, so watch this space...

Snetterton - 3rd & 4th October 2009

The weekend of 3rd & 4th October brought us to Snetterton for the Autumn Race Meeting of the MGCC Racing Championships. The Register stand was located with the main club in the Hospitality Suite over-looking the starting grid. A perfect location for taking pictures and watching the action close-up. There were a number of Zeds in attendance at the East Anglian circuit as we flew the Register flag once again at these popular race meets. Driving the MGCC Course Car to Norfolk was entrusted to the Register once again, being driven by Chairman Neil Mattock. The racing action was entertaining as always as drivers fought for their final positions of the season. The Register's Treasurer & Technical/Parts Secretary Peter Burchil was in action in his Lunar Racing ZS (pictured above). Qualifying and most of the racing took place on the Saturday with the final races and the British Motor Heritage Four- Hour Relay Race taking place on the Sunday. Presentations and prize-giving brought the weekend to a close. The weather was kind to us once again, remaining cloudy but dry for most of the Saturday, and beautiful autumn sunshine making Sunday slightly chilly.

Cadwell Park - 6th September 2009

The MGCC Racing Championship action continued at Cadwell Park on 6
th September. There were a number of Zeds in attendance at this remote, but brilliant circuit in the rolling Lincolnshire countryside. Those Register Committee members in attendance had extra duties too as, due to the holiday season being in full swing still, there was no one available to run the usual refreshments offered in the MGCC hospitality marquee. After a phone call from MG Car Club Competitions Secretary, Steve Carr, the Register stepped in to save the day! We set up and ran the refreshment area along with our usual range of regalia. Register Chairman, Neil Mattock, drove the ZT-T Course Car to the event. The racing was as entertaining as always. There was no racing from the Luffield MG Trophy Championship this time, but there was still plenty of action. There were two ZSs in the Peter Best Insurance Challenge race and a ZR in the Metro Cup. Paul Luti was guest driver in the ZS of Ewert Kitson for the second PBIC race. Between qualifying and racing a few lucky members took the opportunity to tour the circuit in their own Zed. The weather was kind to us once again; remaining cloudy but dry for the whole day.
