10th March 2010
Apologies are in order for a couple of errors in paperwork. Championship entry forms have our Secretary Richard's email typed at the bottom of the page but the link was not to his email. Also, some of you had trouble finding the forms on the regulations page so they have now been moved to the top.
7th March 2010
The closing date for Brands is another week closer, get those entries in now rather than risk a late fee.
The MGCC site now has the regs for Silverstone if you have not done the season entry form already, if you want to book testing on the Friday before the racing you will need the event entry form to book this since we did not include it on the season entry form.
12th thru 14th of March is Race Retro at Stoneleigh where your chairman will be on the MGCC stand, come and say hello if your there.
28 February 2010
The closing date for Brands Hatch entries is only 4 weeks away and the MGCC have also released the entry form for Oulton Park.
Those looking for a shakedown session and engine check can take advantage of the offer of a power run on the Lunar Racing rolling road at Rockingham on the Friday 12th of March, where there is also a general test day running. Normal problem - we need a quick responce from those interested to make it happen.
Looking further to the future we provisionally have our tenth round arranged for Mallory Park on the 25th July.
Finally entries have been coming in for the championship and on the season entry form - don't forget the MGCC are going to enforce late entry fees this year but the cancellation arrangements remained unchanged.
6 February 2010
Entries for the championship are flowing in steadily, please check you get the payment details correct. Season entry forms are also making their way into the MGCC offices.
The calendar page has been tweaked so that we now include the closing dates for race entries once they are known, don't get caught with a penalty fee.
30 January 2010
A very long gap since the last update, more like a winter hibernation. Now as the 2010 season gets frighteningly close its time for more regular activity.
Several updates to the website and lots more to follow.
The regulations page has the class descriptions for 2010 and answers to some of the regular questions, importantly it has the 2010 registration form and a season entry form for MGCC rounds.
Race dates are currently provisional and a formal bulletin will be issued to confirm them.
Newsletter 1 has gone out electronically to those addresses we have, if you have not received it then you might one of the addresses we have that does not work! Please contact Dave Brooke to get your name added.
A long gap since the last update to the site but there has been plenty of PBIC and MGCC business to keep your webmaster busy.
The latest newsletter has gone out to competitors and is now available on the website for download. Included with it are the official final points standings and the results page has been updated in line with these.
Drivers will also have received nomination forms for the Drivers Driver award and these should be completed promptly for return to Maggie. Also to go back to Maggie are the awards dinner booking forms.
The drivers meeting wil again be held before the dinner and consultations have already started, comments have been keeping one championship related website extremely busy
It has been a very busy weekend and the tension became almost visible as the chase for the title went to the very last race on Sunday morning.
Round 9 on Saturday had seen the three contenders score the wins they needed to remain in with a chance under conditions that saw Snetterton looking more like the Sahara desert as wind blown dust at times reduced visibility to almost nothing.
Sunday morning dawned bright and clear with the wind of Saturday gone. Simon Cripps and David Brooke had to get maximum scores and hope James Walpole had big problems if they were to win but James drove a flawless race to become Peter Best Insurance Champion 2009.
Points are on the Results page and the Snetterton race results are available.
Snetterton is very nearly upon us and we will be hoping that our full grid suffers no late retirements. All drivers should have received a request to return any annual trophies, if you have not then contact Dave or Maggie because we've got your email wrong.
Peter Best drivers are obviously optimistic about car reliability since at least 16 are entered in Sundays relay race.
The newsletter is now out with the Cadwell Race report, apologies for the delay caused by a combination of IT problems and holidays - download Newsletter 7 now.
And apologies again, when the results were updated a number of errors crept in, most notably the point for finishing was left off peoples totals. Points should now be more accurate and include all finishers.
Apologies for the apparent lack of an update, the website has been doing its swan impression ( not visible changes but lots of out of sight action ) as it became apparent from feedback at Cadwell that people with the latest Internet Explorer could not see the menus! Hopefully the fix is working?
The racing saw a very busy day last weekend as the championship provided 4 races at Cadwell on the Saturday.
As per yesterdays news item the latest newsletter is now availble for download, and the points table has been updated with the scores from Mallory Park.
Cadwell Park is busy for us with 2 races for each of 2 grids - classes A, F and T have 21 runners on the current entry list while classes B, C and E have 18. Welcome to the new names that have entered but there are some regular names missing so there may be more on the day.
Tickets should have gone out to all those entered and if you want to put in a late entry then as usual contact Steve Carr at the MGCC - details on our contacts page.
Entry lists for the next race meeting at Cadwell Park are now up on the MGCC website. Have a look and let Steve Carr know if there are any errors.
Latest newsletter has gone out to registered competitors and will be available here over the coming weekend.
Everyone registered with the MGCC should have received the entry forms for the last meeting of 2009 at snetterton on the 3rd and 4th of October.
Mallory race results are available here.
Points update and the next newsletter are in the pipeline, a few photos will be in the gallery soon and some extra video has been added to the YouTube playlist.
Newsletter 5 escaped into the wild just before the Mallory weekend and is now available, the other related website updates are on their way.
Cadwell Park race meeting is approaching rapidly and it now looks certain that the grid will be split into two races with classes A, F and T getting to run with out B, C and E interferring. Don't forget that this is a double header meeting so it will be very busy for our race reporter.
Mallory grid has gained a few more cars but there could still for a very late entry, contact the 750MC. Tickets should have been received this week by those entered already.
Cadwell Park is approaching fast at the beginning of September, you can download the entry form from the MGCC website if you have not already done a season entry.
Mallory race with the 750MC has been through a couple of changes in the last few days. As of this lunchtime the BCV8 have reluctantly withdrawn their round due to the poor entry, all Peter Best registered competitors should have had an email giving details and importantly the entry forms if you still want to enter.
To give you a better deal the race is now up to 18 minutes plus one lap. If you are interested then call the 750MC, the number is on the documents mailed this morning.
The Silverstone race at MGLive had a full grid and provided the usual excellent racing right through the field. The Peter Best subset of the results are now available and provisional points are also out.
Looking ahead we have Mallory Park with the 750MC very soon and at the beginning of September there is the double header round at Cadwell Park, please contact the MGCC as soon as possible if you are even vaguely thinking of entering since there is the chance to get a lot of cars on track but the numbers need to know very soon.
Silverstone is now getting close! Tickets and passes arrived with your webmaster this morning, please don't panic yet and try to contact the MGCC.
When you do get your tickets please check the entry list for errors and tell the club, the last version from the club website is this.
Don't forget our silverstone information page with a few notes to hopefully help you enjoy your weekend including a couple of weather links - sun screen or waterproofs? Our AGM is still on for Sunday and having seen the race timetable your coordinator and chairman have gone for a time of 1 p.m. to minimise the number absent with other commitments, the meeting will not take long.
Points for rounds 3 and 4 are now official and the results page has been updated accordingly.
Newsletter 4 has been released into the wild.
2008 AGM minutes available upon application, don't worry if your a registered competitor they wll be mailed to you shortly.
Forms for Round 6 at Mallory Park are now available, click through to the calendar page.
MGCC website has been updated with the entry lists as at the closing date, click the site link in the previous news item or see our local copy.
An "unofficial" update of the points table has been done, but your webmaster does not have the entry received info so expect an ammendment soon.
Don't forget to be at Silverstone nice and early for the AGM which will very sensibly be held before you all have to get ready for racing - the annual game of beaurocratic dodgeball.
Updated a couple of pages in the website and added some more videos to the playlist.
Race report for Brands is available here and the next newsletter should be out very soon.
Entry lists for the Silverstone weekend are on the MGCC site for all races or you can go direct to a local copy of the PBIC entries as at the 10th of June. If you have not got your entry in for the PBIC or one of the other races then don't delay since entries close on Friday the 19th of June.
Rounds Three and Four at Brands Hatch saw a great entry which unfortunately saw classes F and T run with the Metros so everyone could race, there just was not time to make the track wider!
Results from Brands are available for just the PBIC or if you want the whole race meeting they can be obtained from the TSL website.
Race report and the next newsletter are in the pipeline, official points table update will also be available soon.
Looking ahead on the calender the entry form for Mallory with the 750MC is available on their website.
The date for the 2009 AGM has been set for the Sunday 12th July at Silverstone, 9.00 am start so there is plenty of time before you all need to get to scrutineering. Normal agenda to elect the committee for the next year and an open forum session to take suggestions for 2010 rule changes.
Tickets for Brands Hatch should have arrived with entrants on Saturday or this morning.
Well the Brands entries have closed and we have four reserves as of the closing date. Please check the list - see entries - and if your entry has an error contact Steve Carr as soon as practical. Entry lists for the Drayton Manor and Trophy races can found on the MGCC motorsport webpage for Brands.
Our Brands Hatch info page is now up to hopefully make your day easier, if you want more info added to these pages we await your input.
New front page image courtesy of Daniel Featherstone before everyone got realy bored with the old one, more can be found at www.alanfphotography.co.uk.
Don't forget that Brands Hatch entries close tomorrow. If you have already entered Brands keep an eye on the MGCC site for the entry lists which should appear soon.
Silverstone International event entry form is now available from the MGCC website, currently it is not on the motorsport page or in the MGLive microsite but only via the front page of the main club site - here. If you have done the season entry form it is still worth looking at the event form since it lists a couple of longer duration and two driver races you might be interested in.
If all of this is old news because you got the email from MGCC competition secretary Steve Carr then great but if you did not than think you should have then now.
In other news, we have a few Oulton photos in the gallery and the rss feed should now be updating with the news page correctly.
Breaking news and hopefully the championship site has it first for a change.....
Brands Hatch double header races to both run on the same day and on the Sunday. This should help all competitors with their travel arrangements and easy the work planning problems of those who work Saturdays. Our thanks to the MGCC for making this possible.
Oulton Park was a bright but windy day and provided some very close racing, results are available for the PBIC or if you want the whole meeting they are on the TSL website. The next newsletter will be out to competitors soon and then will be available here along with the race report.
Entries for MGCC Brands Hatch close this Friday 15th, act now if you have not got an entry in already. Use our season entry form or the MGCC live entry form.
An entry form for Silverstone will be on the MGCC site soon so keep an eye open since this is a very popular meeting.
Tickets for Oulton Park should have or will very shortly land on the door mat, please check your entry details and let the club know if there is an error.
The Brands Hatch entry form is on the MGCC site or you can use our season entry form on the Regulations page.
Newsletter 2 did make it onto the website and several items would have appeared last weekend except for a technical gremlin.
Entries for the next round on Oulton Park are now officially closed, but late applications may still be accepted - contact the meeting secretary Steve Carr.
An info page has been added for Oulton since nobody said the donington one was a waste of time...
The more observant will have noticed several things sneek onto the website in the last few days, but no update to this page!. The points table on the results page has been updated with the scores from Donington and the championship timing info is also there to download, full results of the meeting are on the TSL website ( see the links page ). The second newsletter has gone out to competitors today, it will be available here in a day or two along with the Donington race report.
Oulton Park entries for the May 9th meeting are coming in with 21 as of last weekend.
The Donington Park round did go ahead but was subject to some restrictions, full details and the race results will appear in the next couple of days.
No jokes today but good news that the Donington Race meeting is going ahead. A track license has is being granted for the MGCC on the 4th and the HSCC on the 5th of April, we look forward to seeing you there....
You've seen the front page and clicked throught right.....
For those that had not heard the rumour already, the Donington Park owners have experienced difficulties in the reissue of their circuit license for car racing although it is you webmaters understanding that a motorbike meeting is happening today and tomorrow. The MGCC had sensibly investigated its options and a plan to use an alternate venue a week later was made. As of the 27th March the MGCC were given information for them to decide to continue on the basis that Donington will be useable, Steve Carr the secretary of the meeting has posted a message on the MGCC site. Keep an eye on the MGCC site if you can and remember they will contact us so don't call them !
Elsewhere, the newsletter can now be downloaded but you will not find the error mentioned previously....
This site is now being watched by Google Analytics with the intention that we can improve the browsing experience for our visitors.
An experimental Donington Info page has been added, if you would like these for each race then feedback at Donington please.
Newsletter 1 for 2009 has been sent out to registered competitors and will be available for download in a couple of days time and apologies for the error on the final page! this should be edited in the downloadable version, suffice to say the author go a year ahead of himself.
Many of you will have hear the rumours about Donington, please don't chase the club - they will contact those involved as soon as there is news. I'd suggest looking at the club website.
Donington entry list for the 37 drivers as at 23 March now available - download list.
Donington closing date is now past and we have 37 entries with unfortunately only 36 places on a full grid, sorry we don't know who the 37th person is at the moment - the last published entry list is for Monday 17th ( check it now ). Clearly the message is get your entries in early! - three of our entries arrived on the closing date and this just makes it difficult for everyone.
Tickets and final instructions for Donington will probably be delayed while the club try and get everyone onto the grid because guess what we're not the only championship sending in last minute entries.
Oulton Park entries are also coming in and the MGCC website again has an entry list online - this one is a little older since the club is concentrating on the Donington meeting at the moment.
All of you are no doubt awaiting a championship newsletter and the first one for 2009 will be out shortly via email then on the site soon after.
The Jonesey Racing website continues to provide excellent entertainment and is always worth a visit, the Valentines report has generated an extraordinary level of involvement fro competitors and supporters, the Donington pre race report should be appearing soon http://www.jonesey-racing.co.uk/.
Donington Park race closing date of March 20th is approaching fast and if you have been reading the entry lists on the MGCC site you might think it's too late since we have reserves listed, well if you combine the Cockshoot with us then there are still 5 spaces on the grid and even more if we get a race on our own but you will have to contact Steve Carr quickly.
Now down to 37 days to the season kick off at Donington and we up to 18 entries from the usual suspects but several people are notable by their absence.
MGCC website now has the entry forms and supplemental regs for Oulton Park on May 9th and you can get them through our calendar page or from the MGCC directly.
The days to the first round are counting down and with only 45 to go till Donington have you got your entries in for the championship and the first race. So far we have 15 entries so come on the rest of you and get the forms back, the 2008 season results suggest that Donington competitors will feature strongly at the end of the season.
And while mentioning the rapid approach of the season - have you checked all your kit and car safety equipment that might have an expiry date or need servicing. To give you a starter, when was you fire extinguisher serviced?
Website tweaks are continuing and why do we bother !*? since none of you have looked in the gallery recently and complained the menu was broken, hopefully all is now well.
Video content from YouTube is being collected to setup our gallery, you can see the first fruits on our video page.
We're not dead ! !
Apologies to all that the website has been static for a little while. Spring might not be in the air yet but the first shoots of a new race season are slowly pushing forth.
By the time you have reached here it will not have escaped your notice that we have a new visual style on the site and this reflects the new graphics in use by our sponsors Peter Best Insurance. We hope you can still see everything and that you will agree that the new look gives the site a lighter feel, however the historic pages from past years will keep their old appearance.
The championship permit has been granted by the RAC MSA, the notice and the 2009 regulations are available from the regulations page.
The Championship registration form and season entry form should have got to all past competitors, please contact Maggie if you have been left out and can not use the links to get them. The Donington entry form for the 4th April is available from the MGCC website and will be linked here soon.
December 2008
Another successful year has drawn to a close for the Peter Best Insurance Championship, a new champion will have received their spoils by the time you read this and others both old and new to the series will have seen their achievements or failures recognized.
The season began with a return to Donington for the first MGCC race meeting of the year where the number of entries caused headaches for the club as the usual suspects were joined by a number of new faces, most notably the two ZS saloons with their college based support team. The championship was split between two races to get everyone on a grid and both races provided their share of excitement - would the ZS saloons be fast or slow? would the K series engined MGB run away from everyone to win? - fortunately neither were outclassed or unbeatable as experience proved to be the key to scoring points.
Round 2 was as guests of the Aston Martin Owners Club who were impressed by our hallmark close racing throughout the largest field of the meeting. Then came rounds 3 and 4 with the MGCC at Oulton Park and Silverstone respectively and the pattern of the year was starting to show. Reigning Champion James Walpole was proving the man to beat in the road going class winning every round after a non finish at Donington, while the seemingly ever present V8 of David Brooke was proving to be equally dominant in the road modified class. In the MGF class Paul Rigg was obvious the fast man but had only finished half the rounds and in the race class the K engined MGB of Blaine Neaves was beatable but consistency saw him leading the class.
As the season continued positions at the top of the classes were consolidated while some of those behind suffered mixed fortunes. John Bynczyk had been leading the MGF's until technical issues keep him out of two rounds late in the season. Simon Hutchinson had lost three results after a crash at Oulton in the damp conditions but returned in style with class and race wins to the end of the year. Peter Bramble after a couple of early season low scores was consistently finishing well to amass a serious second place score in the road modifieds and while the reigning champ dominated the road going class second place was hotly contested with Clive Jones, Alan Brooke and Simon Tinkler all showing strongly. In his T Type John Bussey was perhaps lonely in the class but always enjoying a race with someone.
The season climax was to be a double header at Snetterton but the english weather intervened to cancel the final round and so the championship was decided on one round less than intended. In the road going class defending champ James Walpole finished well clear of the chasing pack led by Alan Brooke and Clive Jones. Road modified had equally been in little doubt with David Brooke comfortably beating the MGB's of Peter Bramble and Pat Fenn while Peter Burchill showed that the road going ZS has considerable potential. Had the last race run Simon Hutchinson might have beaten Blaine Neaves for the class but both would have finished ahead of rapidly improving Kevin Williams in the modified ZS. The MGF's were equally close and either Paul Rigg or John Bynczyk could have won if the other had non finished but in the end Paul took the class from John with a much improved Kevin Stibbard finishing third.
Overall the margin for the championship was just two points as David Brooke took the title from James Walpole, both drivers within 6 points of a perfect score.
