MG Trophy ‘Assert’ themselves with charity partner once more
The MG Trophy Championship drivers have decided to stay with their chosen charity ‘Assert’ for a further year.
Assert is the charity that offers support, education and research for all those with Angelman Syndrome.
In June last year the championship presented a cheque for £700 to the charity at MG Live and in February this year the championship topped up their donation to £1,000 with a further donation of £300.
The presentation was made by championship co-ordintor Pete Macwaters to Assert’s Andea Baines at the MG Car Club’s offices at Kimber House in Abingdon.
Trophy co-ordinator Pete Macwaters said “I was really pleased that the drivers voted to stay with Assert for another year and it was great to meet Andrea for the cheque hand over.”
All the MG Trophy cars carry the Assert sticker in the windscreen and they will be competing in 12 rounds all over the UK in 2017.
MGLive! to welcome the Masters
The MG Car Club is thrilled to announce the Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars will be racing at MGLive! alongside the Club’s championships at the biggest MG party in the world at Silverstone circuit on Saturday 17 & Sunday 18th June.
Racing at the home of British motorsport on Sunday 18th June, the Masters will provide an incredible experience for spectators at MGLive! thanks to an outstanding line-up of cars.
Like all of the races across the weekend, the Masters won’t be racing on Silverstone’s National Circuit. MGLive! is one of only a handful of events that uses the Grand Prix circuit, making it even more special for the Masters when they visit in June.
Broken down into several classes, visitors will get the chance to see BMW 2002s, Alfa Romeos, Lotus Cortinas, Ford Falcons and Mustangs battling it out against the ever competitive Mini Coopers.
All of the Club’s seven championships will also be in attendance with some iconic MGs on show. MGBs, MG T Types and more modern MGFs and MG ZRs are just a few of the cars that spectators can expect to see across the weekend.
Race Competitions Secretary John Hutchison commented: “Having Masters join us at MGLive! this year is a real coup and we’re delighted to welcome them.”
“We truly believe the Masters offer something completely different for motorsport fans of all ages. From brutish V8 Fords to classic Minis, visitors should enjoy an eclectic grid of cars that will provide some very exciting racing that will keep them on the edge of their seats,” Hutchison added.
MGLive! is just one of six venues the Masters will be attending in 2017, racing across Europe at destinations such as the Espiritu de Montjuic in Spain, Spa in Belgium and Zandvoort in Holland. It’s almost race time!
It’s now just one month until the start of the MG Car Club’s 2017 race season, which begins on Sunday 9th April at Donington Park.
MG Car Club racing sees MGs of all ages from T-types to modern ZRs racing around circuits located across the country. Racers with various experience levels are welcome, and in 2017 the Club will continue to support the next generation.
Half price entry fees have been extended to young drivers up to the age of 25, who can now age can kick-start their motorsport career and follow in the footsteps of the likes of former MG Trophy star, Jack Goff, who now races in the BTCC.
After opening the season at Donington Park, the Club will move onto Brands Hatch on the 29th and 30th April, before heading to Silverstone for MGLive! on the 17th & 18th June.
At MGLive! the Club’s championships will be joined by various high profile guest series’ – all of which will be revealed shortly.
Cadwell Park will be the next venue on the 22nd July before Oulton Park on the 2nd September. Snetterton will once again be drawing the season to a close on 30th September & 1st October, and will also be incorporating the British Motor Heritage Relay Race. This is open to all classic motoring marques, and entries can now be made for this popular end of season relay, which enters its 13th year.

Trophy renew Millers Oils partnership

The MG Trophy Championship has renewed its association with Millers Oils who will once again sponsor the ‘Driver of the Race’ awards at each of the 12 championship rounds in 2017.
Trophy co-ordinator Pete Macwaters said: “The Driver of the Race awards at our MG Car Club meetings are decided by the race commentators after each race and the chosen driver is awarded additional goodies on top of the usual club trophies.
“We are therefore very pleased to be continuing our relationship with Millers Oils for another year.”
Following the deal agreed with Millers Oils, Motorsport Product Manager Naomi Palmer announced that the company will donate five litres of race oil to each nominated driver.
Palmer said: “We were the first to bring the low friction benefits of nanotechnology to engine oil in the UK and our CFS 5w40 NT+ is one of our range of Motorsport oils that have been reformulated and upgraded for 2017.”
Macwaters believes that the extra incentive with push drivers even further in the 2017 season.
“This represents a considerable incentive to drivers to race hard but fair and with so many cars on the grid in 2017 this will be a well-earned bonus,” Macwaters concluded.
