“Not a radical car but a departure for MG, the change from a pre-war upright look to a modern, curvaceous form.

The A was a massive export success, especially to the US. In many ways it is responsible for nurturing the long love affair of the Americans for the small British roadster. It was a template of sorts; modestly powered, small and light and immense fun to drive. Successive cars from MG and the Triumph and Austin-Healey would follow a similar pattern. Ironically, the MG A is rare in Britain. Under 6% went to the home market, making it one of the most exported cars Britain has ever produced.”
