I agree with DC. Running on is more likely to be a timing problem than a carb problem. It could indicate that you are running too advanced and the combustion chambers are getting too hot. I assume that "stage 2" means a modified cam, polished head and bigger valves? (there isn't a universal definition). If so, the cam maker should be able to give you advice about ignition settings and needles. If you are still running SUs, the type of air filter makes a big difference.

I am not from Oxfordshire but a colleague had good service from Manor Garage, Wantage but I don't think they have a rolling road.
Oselli are listed as a MGCC approved specialist but they have moved from Whitney to Buckingham.

Jason, I too am based in Oxon, near to Woodstcock.

If it's a 1950 engine chances are it's a combination of distributor advance set-up and carbs. Q? Do the carbs have an anti run-on/poppet valve on the butterfly disc? If so, change these to a non-poppet disc. As now 1950cc the engine would benefit from slightly different carb needles and filters...if this hasn't been done already; all this will help induction set-up.

The anti run-on valves can be beneficial, but, even with plain carb butterflies once the other bits are done and timing set-up correctly you should not experience any run-on; even on a hot day. BTW what distributor are you using??

Ref' a good tune up garage...we are both in the heart of MGB land. Manor at Wantage are very experienced.

Also Andrew Bradley at shipton under wychwood, not too far from you. I think he trades as Btech Racing as well. Has a rolling road, very used to classic cars, and is very helpful.

Re:Home Tuning? 1 Year ago
Thanks for your help guys.

I have the standard SU carbs still in place but with richer needles and no butterfly anti-run valves as yet. I have KN filters and a performance distributer.

I have spoken to Frontline Performance in Steventon and they will take a look at the set-up for me in a couple of weeks time. If unsuccessful I will then try Manor Garage and Abingdon Car Restorations.

I'll keep you posted.

Jason, just a note in case something was lost in translation - do not add poppet/anti run-on valves discs to the carbs; good luck with set up.
