Holland Brothers Rally

alt

This is a navigational scatter rally for the Holland Brothers Trophy. For those unfamiliar with the format each competitor is given a list of perhaps 18 map references, which are then plotted. However, maybe only 12 of these have to be visited, so you have to plot a route to visit the 12 which you think will involve the least mileage. To prove that you have visited the plot point you will be asked to provide the answer to a clue, those with the most correct answers and the least mileage being the winners. The venue TBC.

Sunday 31st May
South West Centre
Bath Gymkhana,

Following the long tradition of the M.G. Car Club for motoring fun at every level the South West Centre are again holding the Bath Gymkhana at Charmy Down which is on the A46 a few miles out of Bath toward the motorway.

The entire event is held on agricultural pasture and is intended to be fun for you, as members regardless of the newness or otherwise of your car, you can even enter your every day vehicle if the M.G is between MOTs.

Various “tests” are laid out with bollards and the idea is to drive round them as fast as you can without knocking any over.  The snag is that the gaps between the bollards are narrow and the grass surface slippery so a degree of skill is required for fast, clean runs.

The atmosphere is friendly and all the tests are laid out in such a manner so that you can watch your colleagues as they hurtle round (and the marshals as they go round replacing the cones they knocked down in the process).

So for an afternoon of wonderful excitement for a mere £10 why not come and join us on Sunday May 31st at the Bath Gymkhana.

Prince Bishops’ Run

The very popular Prince Bishops Run will be revived for 2009, and will take place on Sunday 7th June 2009. This run will start as in former years from the car park of the Clifton Moor Retail Park, on the outskirts of York, and will finish at County Hall, Durham, following the route taken by the former Prince Bishops of Durham when travelling from York to Durham. The route will include a suitable lunch stop and, as always, includes some of the best countryside in North Yorkshire and Durham, terminating with the traditional ‘Funkhana’ in County Hall car park.

Aviation Heritage Centre Event
alt

This is an event where the Lincolnshire Centre is invited, along with the Rover club, by the owners of the LAHC (which is at East Kirkby airfield) to provide a display of cars. This is a special day because the Centre is not usually open on a Sunday. There is a huge collection of WW2 memorabilia with vehicles and aircraft, you can visit the control tower during an “ops”, lunch in the NAAFI, and best of all, view Lancaster bomber “Just Jane” and (weather permitting she is outside) listen to the four Merlin engines being fired up.

Multi Venue Driving Tests, PCTs, Gymkhana events and Sausage Sizzle
A very sociable, competitive event for cars of any marque built between 1938 and 1955 and for MG marque only built between 1956 and 1974 (and in continuous production up to 1980). It is the brainchild of one of our long-standing members, Noel Cochrane, who plans routes along main roads, up and down private country lanes linking one farm to another, across muddy fields and even through the odd stream. Again, all cars must be fully roadworthy, ie, taxed, insured and MOT’d where appropriate. The event finishes with a very welcoming sausage sizzle, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

MGCC Racing Rounds 7 & 8,
Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire
For these rounds just think how competitive the MGCC Race Championships will be have become by this time. This fantastic and pretty little Lincolnshire circuit is a must if you enjoy your MG racing. The mountain where cars leave the ground (unusual in the flat landscape of Lincolnshire) is just to be believed if you have never been there. You may even get a chance to drive the circuit yourself in your own car if you are a Register member, although a tricky little circuit and not for the faint hearted.

Old Speckled Hen Run
The Tyne-Tees Centre will once again be running its own version of the Old Speckled Hen Run on Sunday 13th September 2009. With the company of over 30 cars from the MGB Register who will be enjoying their weekend in our area we have the potential of more than 60 cars. The 80 miles or so will take us across the three rivers of our region, Tees, Wear and Tyne and we can promise some wonderful countryside for the participants. What we can’t promise are blue skies and open-top conditions but we can dream.

Autumn Autotest

alt

Same venue, East Kirkby Airfield PE23 4DE, and same format as the Invitation Autotest. Last year half of the competitors were in Fs or TFs, an encouraging sign that owners of modern MGs, some of whom are new to the marque and to the club are willing to continue the sporting tradition. To acknowledge this, this year there will be a new award, for the best performance in an F/TF. These events are a great day out and with a very friendly atmosphere. To increase your chance of winning an award you need to enter both autotests as points are accumulative.

Another navigational scatter rally, venue to be confirmed. As with the autotests there is an award for the best novice, points being accumulated from each event entered so the more the better. One feature of the Lincolnshire Centre’s scatter rallies is that the winners have to arrange the equivalent event the following year – but don’t despair, help is available if required.
