Silverstone International
'08 Featuring K3/75 |
28March 2008
|
|
We
know that members join and are loyal to the club for different
reasons and we also know that you enjoy your Silverstone International
in different ways.
For many people, Silverstone International is about meeting old
friends. Friends built up over the years who may be from all corners
of the country and even the world. Silverstone International is
the event where everyone gets together to celebrate everything
that's great about MG cars and MG people.
Another big draw of the event is the entertainment on offer. Displays
of the very best MGs, amazing driving skills, the joy of a three
day long haggle with the trader who has just the spare part you
have been looking for all year!
Best of all, Silverstone International isn't like any other event
because it gives you the chance to be a part of it, to really
be involved in the activities. This weekend, you're in the driving
seat.

SILVERSTONE INTERNATIONAL ROAD RUN |
13th June 2008 |
Tour de Silverstone - 13th June 2008
New for SI 2008 is a tour of the countryside around Silverstone on Friday 13th June.
The tour is a circular run of approximately 85 miles starting and finishing at Silverstone circuit with a half way stop planned at the World famous Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon, Warwickshire. The Museum is home to many iconic British cars and is a popular destination for both National and International visitors interested in the history of the British car industry. It also has an excellent café/restaurant and gift shop. See: www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk for more information about the museum.
The attractive route takes you through the leafy back roads of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. This is the heart of rural England where it is still possible to drive your MG on minor roads, through picturesque villages and enjoy unspoilt countryside.
An optional quiz will also be included to find the crew with the best observational skills on the run.
The Run is open to all participants but is strictly limited to 100 cars.
The cost of the run for a car and two people is just £20 and includes free admission to the Heritage Museum (worth £18 for two people), rally plate and Tulip style route book. Extra passengers will cost £8 (includes museum admission)
To enter the first ever Tour de Silverstone, call Colin Grant at the Kimber House on +44 1235 555552 or CLICK HERE to download the interactive entry form.

Petition to Protect Classic
Car Use |
4 February
2008 |
Since early last year
there has been a petition on the 10 Downing Street website calling
on the Prime Minister to reject any EU proposals to ban or
restrict the use of older cars, and recently there has been a
flurry of chain e-mails encouraging people to sign this petition.
We have received a number of enquiries from members about this
supposed threat, so we thought this issue was worth
further investigation.
The MG Car Club is a member of the Federation
of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC), which monitors legislative
threats to classic car use - just one of the ways the MGCC
works to protect our members, in this case against legislation
which could be against your interests. Additionally,
our Vice-Chairman, Chris Hunt Cooke, is also Chairman of the
FBHVC. Chris is therefore an authoritative source on
what is really happening in this case, so we asked him what he
thinks. It seems the FBHVC has examined this potential threat
very carefully, just as it monitors all similar legislation, and
sees no real problem in this case: “by all means sign
the petition, which can only do good, but do not worry about the
alleged threats, which really are entirely imaginary, and have
no basis in fact at all. FBHVC has been pointing this out
since last May, but it seems very difficult to allay fears once
aroused!” |

| MG By the
Sea |
23 January
2008 |
|
We
have pleasure in announcing the VII edition of MG BY THE SEA which
will take place at Gabicce Mare in Italy as usual.
One more time this small and exclusive sea resort, now famous
within the international MG family, will host this event, as usual
greeting it's participants with it's warm welcome. The special
formula of the get together is to offer a holiday in a pleasant
area where participants can enjoy their MGs by following the many
daily activities or simply go to the beach,
being free not to participate in the outings and spending a relaxing
week. The MGCC Italia motto is after all "MG is...to live
freely together!"

| Brian Griffin |
8 January 2008
|
|
It
is with regret we have to inform you of the sad passing of Brian
Griffin.
Brian passed away in Cheltenham Hospital during the early hours
of Sunday 5th January after a short illness. Over the years Brian’s
contribution to the British Car Industry, especially the MG marque,
has been truly enormous. Starting in1960 with the British Motor
Corporation where he served a five-year apprenticeship at Longbridge
he remained with the company in all it's guises until the closure
of MG Rover, and MG Sport and Racing,
After this Brian remained active around the MG scene and with
his wife Marion, ran their own business, X Power Products. He
always had a smile on his face and time to talk.
So many times Brian has made the seemingly impossible happen for
MG and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We send
our condolences to Marion and family.

| 2008 Silverstone
International Dates Conformed |
5 January 2008
|
Whilst neither the FIA nor Silverstone has made
any announcement regarding the fixing of the date for the British
Grand Prix, the FIA has now published the 2008 F1 calendar and
it does not indicate any reservations about the planned British
GP date. Silverstone themselves now regard the date as being
firm and do not expect any changes.
Therefore we can confirm that the 58th MG Car Club Silverstone
International event will take place over the weekend of 13th –
15th of June 2008.
After a 2007 event which, although surely one of the wettest ever,
featured highlights such as the UK debut of the NAC MG TF and
the UK’s biggest club race meeting with over 600 competitors,
we are aiming at a number of improvements for our 2008 event.
More activities, concentrated into a compact area, will offer
more for members and their families to see and do. The MG
Car Club is proud to promote this event – the biggest MG
event in the world - and we offer you our warmest invitation to
come along and be part of it. See you there! |

| Membership
Card Changes |
21 August 2007 |
|
As
from the end of August, we will be sending out membership cards
to renewing members in a different way. Instead of the familiar
letter from our Membership Secretary Jean Bryce delivered by post,
your new card will arrive inside the packaging of your copy of
Safety Fast! In fact, it will double up as the address label in
the month of your renewal.
This change will represent a significant saving on postal and
stationery costs for the club, as well as eliminating one of the
less interesting parts of Jean's job - stuffing envelopes!
If members respond quickly to their renewal reminders and renew
before their current membership expires, they will not experience
a delay in receiving their membership cards. Similarly, those
renewing by Direct Debit will receive their new cards promptly.
However, if you have not renewed on time, your card will not
arrive until Safety Fast goes out in the first week of the following
month.
This
means it's a very good time to switch to paying your club subs
by Direct Debit. All you have to do to enable this is to complete
the Direct Debit mandate form which can be found here,
and return to us at Kimber House. Better still, by changing to
Direct Debit, you help the the club save on transaction processing
costs and we pass this saving back to you in the form a £4
per year discount.
The staff at Kimber House are grateful for your understanding
and co-operation over the coming weeks as we move to this new
system.
