2014 Beijing Auto Show

23rd April 2014

THE 2014 Beijing Auto show opened on Sunday and the MG Car Club were invited to the show’s launch and to give a presentation on the MG Motor stand.

The Beijing Auto Show is part of the China Auto show, one of the world’s largest motor shows held annually, alternating between Beijing and Shanghai.

MG had a very impressive stand at the show with a purpose built stage and seating area with three versions of the MG6, MG5 and MG3 on display in varying paint and graphics options.

Personalisation and brand identity is still key to the the sale MGs in China and the manufacturer used the show to launch their latest marketing campaign ‘This is me and my MG!’ with three key points:

My Gift – fun to own

My Guide – fun to drive’

My Glamour

The glamour comes courtesy of the range of graphics packs offered by MG, three of which were on display; Pinstripe, Modern Bespoke and Flying the Flag.

Pinstripe is a very striking, race inspired graphics option with bold red stripes running down the sides of the cars, a matte black roof and bonnet sticker, and the model number on the side of the car in a graphic designed to mimic a race track.

The MG5 Turbo model also featured extra red detailing on the front grill, either side of the MG octagon.

Modern Bespoke takes influences from a traditional British tie, with diagonal stripes covering the roof of the car. This year the graphic stretches down further than the roof, continuing onto the rear frame pillars.

Another key factor in the success of MG in China is the brand’s British heritage, which was clear to see in the final graphic option on display; Flying the Flag. This option features a union jack on the roof of the car made up of red and blue MG emblems grouped together on a white vinyl!

The three red cars featuring the graphic were also fitted with blue wing mirrors to complete the patriotic look.

Keen to express the heritage of the Marque, the MG stand was also home to a stunning British Racing Green MGC GT, sitting underneath a wall of classic MG advertisements and posters.

Whilst MG did not have any new models, they did announce two new next generation Cube Tech motors which will be available from 2015 onwards. These have been designed to improve the economy and efficiency of the current range of engines through lower fuel consumptions and emissions.

As well as a number of new features, the new engines will also include stop-start technology.
